The Southland Regional Energy Strategy identifies key opportunities and priorities based on the Southland Regional Energy Assessment, which was commissioned by Venture Southland and undertaken by East Harbour Management Services.

The Assessment was completed in November 2003 and was based on the known and potential resources of the region, emerging worldwide trends, the assessed market demand and response to both traditional and alternative energy use and generation.
