Weather With every season, the face of Southland changes dramatically. Rich autumn reds and golds give way to snow-capped peaks and crisp winter days. Spring brings out the stunning best in Southland’s many parks and gardens, while southern summers are synonymous with twilights that linger well past 10pm, water sports and plenty of barbecues. Southland is both the most southern and western area of New Zealand, which spans latitudes 34 to 47 degrees south, and so lies within the Southern Hemisphere temperature zone. Prevailing winds are westerly and moderate. For today's forecast in Southland, click here.
